Saved

detail from 1000 EyesUncertainty surrounds the question of what is worth being saved in this time of connecting via on-line social networks, when it can be easier to contact your best friend from grade school who lives on the other side of the earth than to get to know someone whose apartment you pass by everyday on your way to work and repairing a piece of clothing or a piece of household equipment can seem like an ancient skill.

This three person exhibition –brings together installations by Debbie Brod, Migiwa Orimo, and I -that highlight the obsolete technology of the typewriter, phone booth and card catalog file. See this link for detailed images of the exhibition.

The exhibition took place at the Pearlman Gallery of the Art Academy of Cincinnati from October 15 – November 12, 2010. An artists’ talk was held on October 24, 2010

The Guest Guide Book and 1000 Eyes are part of this exhibit.

Small World

Small World: This exhibition features new installations and works on paper inspired by the world of books.

The title refers to a world known through the turning of pages, an ephemeral, but convincing world that builds anew as the content of the book connects to each individual reader’s imagination.  It also refers to the small world we call up when presented with an unanticipated connection.

Always and Everywhere, an ongoing series of artists' book installations, reflects the steady growth in my studio practice in search of enlarging and overlapping the worlds of drawing and reading. Both worlds can make a direct connection into the imagination - inviting viewers to become active participants.

Each of the three installations included here developed over a long period of time to be completed in 2007. The series includes two additional installations that are still in progress.

This work is about seeking, about longing for meaning expressed in all human searching and about the possibilities for transcendence when we recognize what we are searching for in the everydayness of our surroundings.
